Ashley Hufft is the Chief of Staff & General Counsel for Millennium Promise. Prior to that, she was a partner in the Financial Services & Products group at the law firm Alston & Bird, where she practiced for 11 years. Her legal practice focused on mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance, with a sub-specialty on representing funds and companies that invest in Africa. During part of 2006 and 2007, she took a sabbatical from Alston & Bird to serve as Project Manager for the Millennium Cities Initiative in Kisumu, Kenya, an initiative of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, under the leadership of Professor Jeffrey Sachs. Ashley received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.A., summa cum laude, in Anthropology from Harvard College. Prior to attending law school, Ashley taught first grade in Louisiana as a corps member of Teach for America. Ashley serves on the board of directors of Project People Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on women and youth empowerment in the townships of South Africa, and Humanity for Children, a nonprofit organization that provides medical services and care to children in East Africa.
