CORE FUNCTIONS OF GLOBAL EDUCATION INITIATIVE INTERN
This Millennium Promise internship supports the work of a new global education initiative, Connect To Learn, formed in partnership between Millennium Promise, the Earth Institute, and Ericsson. S/he will work closely with the initiative’s Director, as well as colleagues across the organization to fulfill his/her role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The position includes the following responsibilities:
- Launch event planning and coordination (through September)
- Support for web site redesign project (through September), plus ongoing web site writing and editing
- Create, edit, and/or proofread a broad range of materials about Connect To Learn for general and media audiences
- Research media outlets and media trends and pitch stories about Connect To Learn to relevant press
- Provide support for long-range pitching and crafting of organization messaging and materials
- Respond to phone calls, online inquiries, and other requests to engage media and individuals in the mission of Millennium Promise and, specifically, Connect To Learn
- Provide support for media events, meeting planning and other special events
- Work on special projects as needed
- Provide support on database and list management, including media lists and coordination with international partners
- Help to organize and maintain departmental files, documents, and procedures
- Research & administrative support
REPORTING
This position reports the Director, Global Education Initiative.
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
This is an ideal position for an undergraduate or graduate student with some strong combination of the following interests and attributes looking for hands-on experience in an exciting new global program.
- Interest in international development, global education, gender parity, issues surrounding the development and empowerment of girls and women, or related fields
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, with a demonstrated interest in international development or business focus preferred.
- Strategic planning and program development experience a major plus
- Experience in journalism, writing, public relations, press outreach and communicating about an international health/grassroots issue
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Outstanding and proactive organizational skills.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Social media/social networking experience a big plus
- Graphic design, film/video and/or media presentation skills highly desirable
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team and to deal with a changing work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
- Excellent PC computer skills required, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; Adobe Creative Suite experience a plus (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc).
- Interest & understanding of the needs and challenges of a start-up operation
- Ability to respond to communication demands across multiple international time zones
LOCATION
The Global Education Initiative Intern will be based in New York.
