Business Development

The goal of the business development sector is to boost income-generation and diversify households' sources of income. Building upon the Millennium Villages' early progress in agricultural productivity, the project is now working to support farmers' transition to commercialized agriculture, including diversification into cash crops, credit-based access to inputs, and capital-based investments in agribusiness.

The sector targets investments at four different scales: household-based enterprises, mid-scale "incubation" cooperatives, larger-scale enterprises, and partnerships with local commercial banks and microfinance instructions to expand communities' access to credit and finance.
