Since the Millennium Villages project began in Mbola in June 2006, the village community has made great strides in achieving its development priorities:
- In 2009, farmers diversified their crops to include high-value crops, such as improved cassava cultivars, fruits, and vegetables, as well as honey.
- Facilitated construction and equipping of one health clinic in each of the six villages, providing cluster-wide access to free primary health services.
- One emergency obstetric care (EmOC) facility is available within the cluster. Strengthened EmOC services through introduction of ambulance services and mobile phones to health facilities and health workers.
- In 2008, over thirty community health workers visited all 6,000 cluster households. Over 12,000 individuals received malaria treatment.
- In 2008 and 2009 consecutively, one school (Ulimakafu) has been the best in the district whereby all pupils passed their national standard seven exams and went for secondary education.
- Constructed new classrooms, built ventilated pit latrines, supplied desks and text books, and refreshed teachers’ training. All of these activities contributed to increased student attendance.
- In 2009, installed grid electricity in two health facilities and two classrooms while solar electricity was installed in one new clinic and four classrooms.
- Launched a mobile phone communication system in the cluster. The Regional Commissioner for Tabora attended the ceremony.
- In 2010, work continues on both digging of shallow wells and borehole drilling. The water scheme to three villages is expected to start after arrival of donated JM Eagle pipes.
